Anxiety in its many forms may have many
of the symptoms listed above.
The various anxiety disorders include:
— Panic Disorder-sudden
episodes of acute apprehension or intense fear occurring “out of
the blue”
— Agoraphobia-fear of being in situations from
which escape might be difficult if you have a panic attack
— Social Phobia-fear of embarrassment or humiliation
in situations where you are exposed to scrutiny of others or must perform
— Specific Phobia-strong fear and avoidance of
one particular type of object or situation
— Generalized Anxiety Disorder-chronic anxiety
that persists for at least six months but no panic attack, phobias, or
obsessions. “Just” persistent anxiety and worry.
— Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder-compulsive washing,
checking, counting… You know your thoughts and behaviors make no
sense, and you’re frustrated and depressed that you can’t
control them.
— Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder-development of
disabling symptoms following a traumatic event
— Acute Stress Disorder-like PTSD (above) but symptoms
subside in less than 1 month.
— Agoraphobia Without History of Panic Disorder-same
as agoraphobia (above) but no full-blown panic attacks
— Anxiety Disorder Due to a General Medical Condition-significant
anxiety as a direct physiological effect of a specific medical condition
— Substance-Induced Anxiety Disorder-panic attack
or generalized anxiety as the direct physiological effect of a substance
(drug abuse, medication or toxin exposure)
